This is Berk. It's twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It's located solidly on the Meridian of Misery. My village. In a word? Sturdy, and it's been here for seven generations, but every single building is new. The only upsides are the pets. While other places have ponies, or parrots... we have dragons, and now it's my job to oversee Dragon Training.
You see, Gobber is no longer the dragon trainer because, quite frankly, he only knows how to fight Dragons. I saw my village take on drastic change between the time I defeated that monstrosity of a dragon, and when I woke up. They are living together with the dragons. The thing is, no one really knows how to go about training one, no one but me.
Of course Astrid, Snotlout and the others got the crash course in dragon training, but they still have a lot to learn. Everyone needs a dragon partner, though the Terrible Terrors aren't good for much more than housepets, and It's my job to find the dragon that best fits their personality. The adults know a lot about dragons, and quite frankly I'm not sure they will ever be able to completely bond with their partners like I have with toothless. They have had their whole worlds turned around, it will take them time to fully accept the change that was thrust upon them, and I can respect that.
I was instructed to pay most of my attention to the children. So I have. Astrid was having trouble with her Nadder, when I paired her up with it, I knew it was only temporary, it's just what we had on hand at the time. More and more dragons are showing up every day, showing us not only more of the species we already know and love, but also bringing new species into our midst. A new Night Fury has entered the village, much to the excitement of toothless. It's a female we named Lilith, well Astrid named her. She's Astrid's new partner, and working out much better. She not quite the same color as Toothless, a deep blue rather than red. I almost with we could find more Night Furys so we could figure out if the color variation was because of the gender, or if it was slightly different from dragon to dragon.
There's a few problems with out new partnership. A southern clan from the village of Curr, they are notorious for having 'tamed' Griffins. Like dragons, there are many types of griffins. The combination is almost always lion with some sort of Bird of prey. The most common are Lion and Eagle, but more exist. Of course, unlike us and the dragons, the Griffins are not willing partners. They do what their masters say out of fear rather than friendship. I was able to tell that as soon as they landed. They want alliance with Berk, though me and my father finally agree this is not possible. They unwillingly tame their griffins, break their spirits. Maybe, if we were able to make them see that a willing partnership was stronger we could meet an agreement, but they've been doing this for seemingly twice as long as Berk has been fighting dragons. If we don't make a decision before the year is up, or deny them, they will open a war between our clans. For now, the village still has time, but we aren't sure what is best.
In the meantime, we decided we needed to train our ranks well in case of battle. So here's where you come in, find your dragon, learn to work with it, and perfect your relationship. It's time to Enter Dragon Training!
